Malaysian in Olympics Football History only qualified twice in Munich 1972 and Moscow 1980. They did not go to Moscow, however, because of politics. Malaysia decided to join many other countries in boycotting the games in protest over the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan.

Malaysia was knocked out in group stage after collecting only 2 points. Malaysia beat USA 3-0 but lost to Morocco and West Germany. The 1972 Olympics gold medal in football won by Poland after beat Hungary 2 - 1 in final.
