"Natural Gas is reputed to be one of the cleanest transport fuels available, not just with respect to vehicle emissions, but also for fuel production. Studies around the world consistently show that natural gas engines produce fewer harmful emissions than petrol, diesel or LPG, in spite of the considerable improvements made to these fuels in recent years. Even when measured against other 'clean' fuels or methods, such as gasoline-electric hybrids, NGVs emissions are frequently lower."
Five things I've discovered while window shopping that you'll be glad to know:
- When properly installed, it is completely safe
Some time ago, there was a huge story in Malaysia that an NGV car had exploded at a petrol station. But the truth is, the explosion was not caused by the NGV tank in the boot. It was caused by Acetylene (an explosive chemical) which the car owner was carrying in his boot.
- The size of the NGV tank will take up most of the space in your car boot.
- Not all petrol stations throughout Malaysia sell NGV.
- Buying and installing the NGV tank costs between RM3,500 and RM7,500.
- The weight of the tank will affect your car's ability to race recklessly on the North-South Highway.
